February 14-20th was International Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week. Little A’s school took part and I decided to take the pledge myself.
Last week I got a parking fine for parking on a suburban street with 2 wheels on the grass, $88 later – lesson learned. Can you imagine if they handed out fines in Dublin for parking on the curb, there’d be no more economic crisis!
At first I was pretty annoyed, I didn’t know it was illegal but yes that is totally my own fault – I obviously didn’t read the rules of the road closely enough when I arrived to Australia. Then I decided to do something good and turn the situation around.
Twice a day I park my car near the school for drop off and pick up. For my Random Act of Kindness I decided to write some notes to explain to other unsuspecting parents that they could be fined for parking as I had. I popped the notes on their windscreens and hoped it would help them out. On the same day Little S fell off her chair at the school assembly and almost knocked herself out. This very kind lady stepped in to help with Little F and when I got back to my car I realised she was the person parked behind me that I had left a note for. Clearly Karma was on both of our sides. She was unaware of the parking law and was very thankful for my note.
So for any friends in QLD out there – park on the road, don’t get caught out like I did!
